In the sometimes dense, dank, and dirty existence that is urban dwelling, it's our home that becomes the haven, the inspiration, and the place of refuge. Our physical space is an extension of our Selves, and in it is where we find deep expression and joy, peace and calm, and even fire and rage. Our homes are like the concentrated syrup of our sweetest and truest nectar, offering us a judgement-free place to love and grieve, to dance and weep, to work and play. They are our miniature, experimental biodomes where we can play freely and safely with the many selves we are and could be. Maybe it's time to let go of the stress of creating the perfectly designed home, and instead let your space offer you both comfort and freedom through curated, purposeful moments.
Everyday altars. Vignettes. Things you like on a shelf. Call it whatever you want, but gorgeously crafted and strategically placed moments of beauty throughout your home can offer you ongoing inspiration, and far more joy than one big, cohesive design. Cara and Bess love to call them vignettes, the definition of which couldn't be more perfect: "a brief, evocative description, account, or episode."
This practice is perfectly aligned with the Sun's shift into the sign of Virgo this Sunday. Virgo is all about everyday alchemy and with Jupiter also now in Virgo, we're being reminded to infuse expansive possibility into what may seem mundane or routine. On the deepest level, Virgo's energy is about venerating the physical world as a direct extension of our inner life and its integrity. Objects carry enormous value as tangible statements of our identity, desires, and intentions.
What do you want to invoke? Place a few things you love all together on a shelf to open your heart. Hang a few photos or pieces of art that draw out that inner fire in a clustering on a wall. Place that prized possession on your nightstand. Let the energy of these things remind you of how you want to live and what feels good to desire. Below are a few of Bess and Cara's vignettes.
